BOOK GIVEAWAY!!

Today’s WRITER OF THE DAY is H. L Wegley. His debut novel, HIDE AND SEEK, recently released. If you love suspense, thrillers, and romance, then this is the book for you! I enjoyed it!!  And he’s giving away an ecopy of the book. All you need to do is leave a comment and you’re in the drawing for the free ecopy of the book. How easy is that???

H. L. Wegley served in the USAF as an Intelligence Analyst and a Weather Officer. He is a Meteorologist who worked as a Research Scientist in Atmospheric Physics at Pacific Northwest Laboratories. After earning an MS in Computer Science, he worked more than two decades as a Systems Programmer at Boeing before retiring in the Seattle area, where he and his wife of 46 years enjoy small-group ministry, their seven grandchildren, and where he pursues his love of writing.

Let’s take a look at the FIRST LINES:

6:00 a.m. Saturday, March 18

Never practice unwise behavior.

Lee Brandt made that vow as a teenager the same year he swore off dating. Now, here he was thirteen years later parked on a secluded road with a member of the opposite sex.

I really hate irony.

He glanced at the woman sitting in the driver’s seat. Jennifer Akihara was the most beautiful woman he’d ever met. She was also the most intelligent. Most guys would die to be sitting here on this Western-Washington mountain road with Jennifer. When he glanced into the passenger-side mirror, it appeared likely that he would.

A vehicle slowed on the highway, and a blast of air left his lungs.

Jennifer’s gaze froze on the rearview mirror and she gasped.

Those lights had pursued them most of the night.

The vehicle turned towards them.

That sent his heart racing.

In an instant, their dead-end hideout turned into a trap.

Jennifer cut the engine and Lee took her hand. Despite the rising panic, awareness of their first touch etched an indelible mark in his memory.

So, what do you think? Definitely intriguing. And that’s just the start of the action!

What’s your favorite type of book to read? Suspense? Romance? A little of both? Don’t forget to leave a comment if you want to win the book! Winner will be chosen on Sunday, Feb. 10!

God Bless and Good Reading!

Title: Winter’s End (Seasons of Faith)

By Rebekah Lyn
Book Two of the Seasons of Faith Series
Musician Michelle Burton just had the best night of her life. Her band Tangled Web opened for Wonderland in downtown Orlando and the crowd loved them. Too excited to sleep she makes a fateful decision to go to work early. The best night of her life turns into the worst day of her life.
Nearby, at boutique Hotel Lago, Stephen Longbottom, acting concierge manager, is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the board of directors for Silken Pleasures, a multimillion dollar company based in New York and specializing in high end cosmetics, fragrances and lingerie. Their incessant demands before they even arrive are driving him to distraction. Meanwhile Lizzie Reynolds, his boss is on a romantic ski trip in Vermont leaving him to manage his first solo event.
Hope, forgiveness and love are an integral message throughout the book and like a fine tapestry the threads of God’s master plan for the character’s lives are woven into a fabric of great storytelling, conflict and humor.
Readers who came to know and love the characters of Summer Storms will enjoy catching up with Lizzie, Stephen, Michelle, Jeffrey and Ian.

Does God Care About the SUPER BOWL?

I am NOT a sports fan or sports nut. Of course, I love my Cleveland teams—win or lose. Good thing, since they mostly lose….. but that’s a story for another day.

From Little League games up through the pros, you will see teams on the field or in the locker room, on their knees praying. That always made me wonder…does God pick sides in sports?

Mmmm…

I don’t know the answer to that question, but I suspect not. But that doesn’t mean God doesn’t care about the game, the players, and everyone else involved. We know he cares about the smallest details of our lives.

So what does God care about when it comes to sports in general and the Super Bowl?  Of course, He cares about the physical and spiritual well-being of all involved, but I think there’s a few other things.

INTEGRITY is the first thing that comes to mind. In this days when we get disappointed time after time by our athletic heroes, (can someone say Lance Armstrong?), it’s a wonderful thing when athletes live the principles they speak of (can someone say Tim Tebow?)

EXCELLENCE at whatever we do. Whether an athlete, a teacher, or a parent, God honors those who choose to live a life of excellence. That doesn’t mean being the best or never making a mistake. It means doing the best you can with what you have.

ATTITUDES are important to God. Come Sunday, a team will win and a team will lose. The attitude in which we do either makes a difference to those around us. We can’t choose our circumstances, but we can choose how to react to them.

So, it seems there are still lessons to be learned from sports. What about you? Besides integrity, excellence, and attitudes, what other lessons can we learn?

IT’S SUPER BOWL WEEK!

I know a little about football–the operative word being a little. I’ve watched it my whole life and still…..I get confused!  Oh, well my Browns aren’t in the Super Bowl this year–but there’s always next year….right?

Anyway, here’s a funny skit in honor of SUPER BOWL WEEK.  It will make you smile maybe even chuckle.

WRITER OF THE DAY-Tessa Stockton

TESSA STOCKTON is a veteran of the performing arts and worldwide missions, contributed as a writer/editor for ministry publications, ghostwriter for political content, and headed a column on the topic of forgiveness. Today, she writes romance and intrigue novels in a variety of genres.  Her latest book is titled, UNSPEAKABLE. You can learn more about her at  www.TessaStockton.com

FIRST WORDS—UNSPEAKABLE:

Without further ado, let’s see how the story begins…..

My brother shifted in his seat. He picked his eyeglasses off the table before he set them down, again, for the umpteenth time. His nervous gestures began to irritate me.

“You shouldn’t have come here,” he said.

“Well, isn’t that a nice welcome.” I tried to bite back the hurt, but my voice sometimes does a quirky little tremolo that gives me away. I stared at the nearby palm tree, glad I came to Colombia, eager to explore its beauty. It beckoned, Come, Sylvia, I will change your mundane life…

Uh, oh, Sylvia.  My advice is never listen when a tree beckons!

TheUnspeakable-WEBUNSPEAKABLE :

When a furtive conflict is pitted between violent leftist guerrillas and a rightwing paramilitary group in Colombia, a North American woman mistakenly gets caught in the middle.

“I spent four months, one week and two days in a clandestine prison referred to as The Water Cave. Every day I stared hell in the face, and each day I wanted to die. I don’t want to share too much too quickly. To understand fully, you must join hands with me, fasten your heart to mine, and course through my book. Stumble over the incomprehensible human rights journey with me. I’ve pondered it to the brink of questionable sanity, and it is the only way. It’s the only way to explain. I suppose I should consider myself lucky I survived at all—for many did not—yet, perplexingly so, that’s not the premise of this narrative.

He altered my life, marked me forever. But it’s not how you might imagine. This is a story involving Horacio Botello, my torturer known as Puma.”

Thanks for being my writer of the say, Tessa. By the way, I lvoe the name. My main character from DARK ALLEYS has the same one!  Want to read THE UNSPEAKABLE?  Here’s a few ways to find it:

FOREVER HIS!

Sundays seem to be a good day to run a devotion so here’s one to enjoy.  I’m hoping it will be a comfort to those waiting for the prodigal son to return or you are that prodigal son.  It’s never too late to come home to you Heavenly Father. Trust me on that! I know from experience. More of my devotions can be found at  www.PowerUpWithGod.com.

FOREVER HIS!

Romans 8:38-39

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This is an awesome GOD moment I experienced many, many years ago, but I remember the details as if it happened yesterday. And that’s saying something because I don’t have a good memory. I was in my car driving up what is called Madison Hill in my 62 Falcon (but it was 1974 on the way to Fredericksburg, Ohio.

God gave me answers that I was searching for and they were the perfect answers for me.

I was nineteen and making choices that weren’t godly. I wasn’t consciously rebelling against God but my actions told a different story. God’s love is so amazing that even though I had turned my back on him, he didn’t do the same to me.

After a year of working in dead-end jobs, I was going to college. but I needed to decide what to major in. I really had no idea. I only knew I wasn’t going to work in a factory or fast food for the rest of my life.   “Teacher” popped into my head from nowhere.  Almost audible, but not quite. What a good idea but what kind of teacher? Elementary? Home Ec? Math? The words, “Deaf teacher” popped into my head. Another great idea! I”d been involved in the deaf ministry through my church since I was about thirteen or fourteen so it made sense to me.

Four years later, I became a Speech Pathologist and several years later received my Master’s Degree as a teacher of the deaf. I was blessed to work most of my career as a Speech Pathologist for deaf and hard-of-hearing students in the Cleveland City Schools.

I loved it! Not that there weren’t a few moments of frustration, but it was a job that I was good at and it brought me much joy thanks to the great students I had through the years.

It was only years later that I realized that God had truly spoken to me in HIS  still quiet voice in that car that day going up Madison Hill.  God had guided me to the perfect career for me even though I was in complete rebellion at the time and for many years afterwards.  I’m still blessed every day by that choice that God gave me that day.

AT the time, I wasn’t living in a godly way, but God loved me enough to get me down the right path anyway. God is so wise and so good. He picked the perfect job for me in spite of my rebellion. This was only one of the times that God clearly guided me, protected me, and blessed me during my rebellion. There were many others!

Know that God loves you no matter where you are on your spiritual journey. Just as the prodigal son’s father worried, loved him, and longed to bless his child when he was off in rebellion, so it is with our heavenly father. Whether our rebellion lasts for ten minutes or ten years, God is waiting with open arms to welcome us back because we are forever HIS!

SHARING TIME: Is there a time God guided you in spite of your rebellion?

LIFE CHANGES–and so do blogs!

If I’ve learned anything this year  LIFE CHANGES!

And so do blogs!  I haven’t been very  active with this blog lately, but I have some ideas to try out in the coming months. I’m excited about it, but who knows? Maybe they’re good–maybe not!  We’ll see what others think about the changes. I hope you’ll be one of the ones to let me know what you think.

First as a writer, a blogger, and a person, I’m not much for planning or scheduling sooo…. I’m not going to say that I’m posting every Monday, Wednesday, or whatever. Some weeks I may post two or three times and other times a week or two may pass.

Here’s a few segments you’ll be seeing in the coming days:

THIS & THAT:  My personal musings about whatever might be on my mind…and that could be anything!

WRITER OF THE DAY:  This segment is about BOOKS and WRITERS. Book Announcements-Book giveaways–new books-old books-favorite books! Did I mention books?

WRITING ADVICE:  I’ve learned a few things on my writing journey and I’m willing to share!

DEVOTIONS: I have a devotional site at www.PowerUpWithGod.com  I’ll be sharing the devotions from that site here as well.

IN HIS IMAGE: CELEBRATING GOD CREATIVELY:  This segment is about celebrating God and the creativity He shares with each of us. It might be a poem–a picture–a music video–a skit video–or a post about how someone uses their creativity.  This

So as you can see,  TIARAS & TENNIS SHOES is going to have lots of hopefully informative, useful, and fun things happening in the next few months.

Oh, yeah–if you sign up to follow the blog my email, you get entered in my BLOG CRAZY CONTEST automatically. How easy is that!  Winners get Amazon gift cards in amounts from $5-20! ! For more details,  www.lillianduncan.net  Contest ends on FEB. 1.

Any other ideas for me?
