Christmas Suspense Novels? Really?

Christmas and suspense novels don’t seem as if they would go together but…I love writing them and my publisher loves publishing them. When I first saw that my publisher had a Christmas Extravaganza each year where she releases Christmas novellas during December, I wondered if it was even possible to write a Christmas-themed story that was suspenseful as well.

I discovered that it’s not only possible to write a Christmas suspense story, but that I love writing them! So today, I thought I’d feature all my older Christmas stories plus my new ones.

THE CHRISTMAS STALKING:  Life isn’t all glitz and glamour for country music star, Destiny; someone wants her dead!

NO HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS: Chloe wants to go home for the holidays, but someone wants to make sure that never happens!

THE CHRISTMAS ANGEL THIEF: Some mistakes can’t be fixed or so Zoey believes!

A CHRISTMAS STOLEN (To be released on December 1) When her niece is kidnapped, Danica Jordon believes Christmas has been stolen–forever.

A ROCK & ROLL CHRISTMAS (available now!)  Johnny Rocker doesn’t need anyone, especially God because, after all, he’s a rock & roll god. As the floor beneath his feet crumbles, he hurtles toward a different truth!

As you can see, not only is it possible to come up with a variety of Christmas suspense stories, but it makes for some awesome covers as well!

A Rock & Roll Christmas by Lillian Duncan

I love Christmas so much that I wrote a two Christmas novellas this year–A Rock & Roll Christmas and A Christmas Stolen! A Christmas Stolen is part of my publisher’s Christmas Extravaganza and won’t be released until December 1. A Rock & Roll Christmas is available now!

AMAZON LINK!

It was $2.99 but it’s on sale now through Christmas for .99 cents! I’m also doing an Amazon Giveaway with it.  Which means you go to this LINK and have a chance to win it for FREE!

When I was asked to be part of a Christmas Collection with other suspense authors, I wanted to write something new rather than use one of my older books. So I thought and thought. I wrote A CHRISTMAS STALKING a few years ago and it featured a country music star and a handsome small-town police chief. So…I thought why not reverse the story. So I created Johnny Rocker–an arrogant rock & roll star. It was fun to write@

Here’s a bit about A ROCK & ROLL CHRISTMAS:

Someone wants mega rock & roll star, Johnny Rocker, dead. It’s Maddie Cotton’s job to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Johnny Rocker believes he’s doesn’t need anyone or anything—especially God because after all he is a rock & roll god. When the floor beneath his feet crumbles—literally—he hurtles toward a different truth.

Since the death of Maddie Cotton’s family, she’s run from life and love. With God’s help, she’s ready to step out of her comfort zone and into a different life. But when her boss asks—no begs—her to take on one last job, she finds it hard to refuse.

Even under Maddie’s protection the threats continue. As Christmas approaches the danger escalates—someone doesn’t want Johnny Rocker to celebrate A Rock & Roll Christmas.

Today’s The Day!

Today’s the day!

Today’s the day for the big American Christian Fiction Writer’s Gala where the winners of the Carol Award will be announced. My book, Puzzle House, is a finalist in the novella category sooo…. what’s my thoughts as I wait to hear the announcement tonight?

I’m sure the other two finalists in my category are just as deserving. I’m sure their books are just as good. I’m sure they’ve worked just as hard to get to this point. Of course, I’d love to win but… winning isn’t everything.

Win or lose, God has blessed me by giving me the dream of being a writer and then the dream becoming a reality.

Win or lose, when Monday comes around I’ll be back at my computer working on my next story.

Win or lose, God will still love me as will my husband, family and friends.

Win or lose, I’m blessed in more ways than I have time or space to talk about.

In 2012, I heard the words, “you have bilateral brain tumors.” Those are not words you want to hear! Those words were quickly followed up by explaining that these type of tumors are rarely cancerous. Good news but that doesn’t mean they haven’t wreaked havoc on my life and my health.

As I went ( and still go) through my struggles, Romans 8: 28 has become one of my go-to Bible verses to give me peace and strength. God promises to work out ALL things for good for those who love him. That’s me! But the truth is I couldn’t see how God could work out BRAIN TUMORS for my good.

And yet He did!

Here it is 6 years later and I still struggle with the effects of the brain tumors but… I have peace and joy. I can still write the stories God gives me. And one of the stories He gave me is PUZZLE HOUSE. Puzzle House would never have been written if I hadn’t developed the brain tumors because the main character has what I have. Yes, the same Puzzle House that’s up for the Carol Award.

So as you can see, God really does work all things out for the good of those who love him.

GOD BLESS & GOOD READING!

Book Review: Praying God’s Promises by Linda Evans Shepherd

Praying God's Promises: The Life-Changing Power of Praying the Scriptures

God has given us many promises and yet so many of us do not see those promises fulfilled. Linda Evans Shepherd has written a wonderful book that will help us move from being frustrated with our prayer life to basking in God’s love.

This is not a book to be read in a day or even a week. This is a book that can change how to think about God. I’m currently using it as part of my daily devotions. Each time I open the book, I look forward to what I’m going to learn that day. The Promise Garden is part of each chapter. It gives verses that are relevant to that chapter’s topic along with a prayer that agrees with God’s Word.

Some of the topics covered include: comfort; faith; healing; joy; peace; and protection. And that’s just a few of the topics. No matter where you are in  your spiritual walk, this book will lead you further down the path.

A big thank you to Linda Evans Shepherd for writing this book!

OK. I’ve been busy for the past few months with visiting family, a family wedding, my 45th class reunion, and then a camping trip but the summer’s slowing down. Nothing to do this week so….Let’s play a game!

How about a trivia game? Today, tomorrow and Thursday,  I’ll post three questions. Anyone who answers all the questions correctly gets entered to win. The prize? You can choose any e-book I’ve written (except for the Sisters by Choice trilogy). Notice I said e-book–not print. If you answer all the questions for all three days, you get three entries.  One question will be book-related, the second will be Bible-related, and the third will be an anything goes question!

You must post your answers here as a comment. If you post it on Facebook it won’t count. When you post the comment, it may not show up right away since I have to approve comments from people who haven’t posted before.

Are you ready?

QUESTION 1–Name 2 different locations used in GONE WITH THE WIND.

QUESTION 2-What Bible verse talks about God using all things for the good of those who love him?

QUESTION 3-What’s your favorite summer food?

God & His Goodness

Romans 8: 28

And we know in all things God works for the good of those who love him,

who have been called according to his purpose.

This verse is one of my two go-to verses during the past six years while struggling with brain tumors and side effects from the tumors as well as from the treatments. At my lowest points (physically) I would repeat this verse as often as I needed to remind me that God hadn’t forsaken me or forgotten me. That he was with me and watching over me and that he indeed would work this out for my good–even though I couldn’t imagine how.

One of the truly miraculous things during this time has been that I could still write my stories. At times, I had to crawl up the steps to my office because I was so weak and my balance was so bad. Then I would sit down at my computer and…the fog would lift and I would write. Sometimes it would only be for five or ten minutes before the fog rolled back. But those ten minutes became a published novel and then another and another.

As I grew closer to God during this time, my writing changed. I still love and write action-packed suspense and romantic suspense but I had other stories to tell as well. I call PUZZLE HOUSE the story I never wanted to write because it came about as a direct result of my brain tumors and a genetic condition called Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2). The main character, Rachel has the same brain tumors as a result of NF2 as I have.

I would never have written PUZZLE HOUSE if I hadn’t developed the brain tumors and NF2 and that means Puzzle House would never be a finalist for The Carol Award! The Carol Award is the American Christian Fiction Writer’s award for excellence in Christian Fiction. Puzzle House is a finalist in the novella category. The winners won’t be announced until September, but as far as I’m concerned, being a finalist makes me a winner!

So you see God really does work all things out for the good of those who love Him!

PS.  Don’t forget, I also have a devotional that goes with the novel–DEVOTIONS FROM PUZZLE HOUSE.
