It’s that time again!!

It’s that time again. I have a new book releasing today! Suffer The Little Children is the third and final (probably) installment in the Puzzle House Series.

Just as a refresher, Puzzle House is the book I lovingly refer to as the book I never wanted to write. It features a character with the same brain tumors as a result of Neurofibromatosis Type 2 that I have. If I hadn’t developed the brain tumors, then I never would have written Puzzle House. Therefore; it’s the book I never wanted to write.

But God is good. Romans 8: 28 tells us that God can work all things out for the good of those who love him. Puzzle House is one of the good things that came out of my brain tumors. It was a finalist in The Carol Awards, a national book award for excellence in Christian Fiction.

That was a lot of fun and very exciting–even if I didn’t win.

Right now, Puzzle House and the second (The David Years) in the series is on sale for 99 cents!

Of course, you can read Suffer The Little Children without having read the other books and still understand the story. Either way works. Suffer The Little Children comes full circle and brings the reader back to Puzzle House where some surprises wait along with a few miracles.

Here’s the back cover blurb:

There comes a moment in every Christian’s life when he must decide if his faith is real—or not.

For Nia Johnson-Simpson that time is now.

Nia has prepared for this moment for years. It’s time for her to step into her role as the next spiritual leader at Puzzle House. The plan is for her to work side-by-side with her new husband, but things don’t go as planned.

As Nia struggles with these unforeseen changes, she must decide what she truly believes…and what she’s willing to give up to continue God’s work.

Oooh, that sounds mysterious, doesn’t it? And I know what happens. It’s an interesting story with spiritual lessons we can all use.

Last Chance

to win your choice of one of my books!

OK, so I had all the great plans for the release of my latest book-The David Years, including giving away books to five lucky people here on my blog.  But life doesn’t always happen the way you plan it. My book released on August 2 as I was in the midst of a family health crisis. My older sister passed away on August 5. She was quite the character and one of these days, you might see her in one of my books. In the meantime, she’s greatly missed.

Because of that I didn’t really promote the giveaway for The David Years the way I planned.

So, here’s the info. Leave a comment on this blog post to be entered to win your choice of one of my e-books, including The David Years. Five winners will be chosen so lots of chances to win. Last day to enter is September 1–my anniversary by the way! Don’t forget to leave a comment. Thanks!

THE DAVID YEARS

With the release of The David Years, I thought I’d share about how the book came to be. The David Years is the second in my Puzzle House series so before I can tell you about The David Years, I have to tell about Puzzle House first.

The stories I usually write are mystery and suspense novels. Puzzle House and The David Years are anything but mystery or suspense, so how did that happen? When a writer’s life changes dramatically, their writing life usually changes in some way as well. In 2012, my life changed dramatically! I was diagnosed with bilateral brain tumors and a rare genetic condition called Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2). The tumors are almost always non-cancerous, but that didn’t stop them from affecting my health in so many different ways.

I’ll share a writer’s secret with you. Writers often use their writing as therapy–at least I do. In 2016, I felt the need to write something different–a story where the main character has the same type of brain tumors I have as well as NF2. And Puzzle House was born! The story is definitely NOT autobiographical–it’s not about me. The only similarity is that the main character and I have the same type of brain tumors because of NF2.

After that–it’s pure fiction!

Puzzle House is a much more spiritual book than my mystery and suspense books. Because of that, I wrote a devotional book to go along with Puzzle House and called it DEVOTIONS FROM PUZZLE HOUSE. My publisher classifies it as Women’s Fiction, but I simply call it a Christian Fiction novel. By the way, men like it as well!

OOOPS! I’m out of time for now so I’ll finish this story in the next edition of A Writer’s Life.

A writer’s best friend–or maybe not!

I like to focus on the positive but everything in a writer’s life is not always positive. So, what do you think a writer’s best friend is? Certainly (at least for me) one of my best friends is my computer. There are days when I spend more time with my computer than with my husband! OK, that might be a slight exaggeration, but not by much.

There are a few writers out there that write everyone out in long hand, but I’m not one of them. I’m not sure I could create a story that way. Believe me, I’m not even going to try.

So why do I call the computer my BFF? I create stories on it, of course. But that’s just the beginning. I keep track of all my covers, my promos, my contracts, my royalties and other tax information on my computer. Another thing I use the computer for is to set up my blog tours when one of my books is released. I have a special calendar program I use for that.

So I have two books releasing this year–The David Years and Trapped. So as you can imagine, I’ve been busy putting together my blog tours and the info for the blog tours. Anyway…my computer hasn’t been acting all that friendly to me lately so I thought I’d do a refresh on it. I chose the option that said it wouldn’t affect my files.

But guess what?

It did affect my files. Especially the calendar files showing who’s blog I’d be visiting and on what day as well as the information for that specific blog. After a few moments of panic, I remembered I have everything backed up. Whew…I could breathe again–or so I thought! After a week of trying to get the program to work right, I gave up.

So, now I’m in the process of trying to recreate the calendar by going back through my emails. It’s working but it’s a slow process.

The computer may still my bestie–but I’m not going to trust it quite the way I did before it betrayed me.

And such is the writer’s life!

GOD BLESS & GOOD READING!

PS.  Here’s the covers for my upcoming releases.

A Writer’s Life–Part 1

I know I’ve been remiss with my blogging. Not just that I don’t blog that often but that I don’t really share much about what it’s like to be a writer. At least my life as a writer. I’m going to change that by adding this new segment to my blog, A Writer’s Life. I’m not saying I’ll blog a whole lot more, but I’m saying I’ll share more about my life as a writer. So without further ado, here’s part 1!

Sometimes writing is easy; other times not so easy; and then there are the times it’s downright difficult. I started working on the third book in my Puzzle House series, probably more than a year ago. And it just wasn’t happening. I couldn’t “see” the story. I’d write some then get stuck, go write something else, then come back and get stuck again. This happened again and again.

Since I started writing this third book, I actually finished three other books and submitted them and got contracts. Yea! I did final revisions on two other books, and started yet another book. Each time I finished a project, I’d go back to the Puzzle House book–currently titled–SUFFER THE LITTLE CHILDREN. Believe me, I was suffering with this book. Anyway, I’d go back to it and start rewriting and then…I’d get stuck once again.

I began to doubt that it would ever get finished, but it was more than half done so I didn’t want to just forget about it. PUZZLE HOUSE tells the story of Rachel and how Puzzle House came to be as Rachel shares about her life and struggles with a young girl named Nia.

THE DAVID YEARS which will release in August of this year and continues the story of Nia.

My idea for SUFFER THE LITTLE CHILDREN would bring the story full circle and back to Puzzle House. But sometimes things don’t go as planned. So I just gave the whole mess to God and asked him to help me figure it out or I was going to forget about it.

Finally about two weeks ago, I realized the story didn’t have a theme. Most of my stories’ themes sort of present themselves to me as I write them. Looking back, this story did as well, I just didn’t recognize it. Once I did, I was finally able to “see” the ending of the story. And so…I’m pleased to say I wrote THE END on the first draft of Suffer The Little Children earlier today!

So when you’re living A WRITER’S LIFE, some days are good and some days are even better!

God Bless & Good Reading!

PS. Prayer works! Praising God for all his blessings, but especially for the blessing of being able to write stories to share with others!
