All I Want for Christmas is Johnny Rocker Dead!

All I Want for Christmas is Johnny Rocker Dead–how’s that for a great title for my latest Christmas novella. And if that wasn’t enough, look at the great cover my publisher created!

Between the title and the cover, it should tell readers one thing. This is going to be a fun story! And that’s exactly what it is.

Every year my publisher puts on a Christmas Extravaganza! I love that word—extravaganza. It’s fun to say. Anyway…what’s a Christmas Extravaganza? My publisher releases a group of novellas with a Christmas theme and for a certain time they’re only 99 cents! How’s that for an extravaganza?

Murder, Mayhem & Christmas? Really? On the surface, it may seem that murder and mayhem doesn’t necessarily go with Christmas, but I love weaving a Christmas story in with suspense and romance. I have several other Christmas stories available—The Christmas Stalking; The Christmas Angel Thief; No Home for the Holidays; and A Christmas Stolen.

Johnny Rocker considers himself a rock and roll god and therefore, he doesn’t need God. But as with all of us, God has a way of getting our attention when he wants it.

Maddie Cotton’s plan for Christmas are simple. She’s quitting her bodyguard job because it’s time for a change in her life. But one simple word changes those plans—Nineveh.

So exactly how does God get Johnny Rocker’s attention and what does Nineveh have to do with it? You’ll have to read the book to find out.I won’t tell you the plot but I will tell you that story is about how much God loves each of us—no matter what we’ve done.

And isn’t that what Christmas is really all about?

All I Want for Christmas is Johnny Rocker Dead releases on November 27th, but you can preorder it right now.

TRAPPED-Baby Steps

As you know, TRAPPED is my latest romantic suspense novel—heavy on the suspense but enough romance to add to the enjoyment. Being Christian Fiction,  there’s also a spiritual message hidden in the pages of the story as well, and this one is no exception.

Angelina Matthews had the perfect life until the day she’s kidnapped and trapped in a basement with a mad man. Even though she’s rescued, she remains trapped by the memories she can’t forget. That’s true for so many of us. Even after the “bad situation” whatever that may be is resolved, we get stuck and can’t seem to move forward with our lives.

Instead, we’re angry and bitter or maybe sad and fearful or most likely a combination of all of those negative emotions.

In the story, her rescuer discovers that Angelina is indeed still trapped by her horrible experience. He’s had his own share of horrible as a Chicago policeman. Because of that, he reaches out to help Angeling.

One of the mantras in the story is “baby steps.” So often we think we have to go from a sitting position to a full-out run or we are a failure. It’s not true. Each baby step, we take will move us toward our ultimate goal–no matter what it is. It’s not important how fast we start but that we start. As the turtle and the hare found out–slow and steady wins the race!

One example from my own life is my weight loss journey. It took me a long, long time to lose 60 pounds. I’m still holding at the 50 pound mark. It wasn’t easy! Some weeks, I would only see a miniscule loss even though I followed the plan perfectly. But each of those miniscule losses eventually led to a pound and another pound and another

Each baby step we take toward our goal is a win. Every win brings us closer to our ultimate victory!

But TRAPPED isn’t a self-help book, it’s a suspense novel. That means there’s lots of twists and turns that will keep you guessing who the bad guy is until the very end!

TRAPPED–The Heroine

We’ve already talked about the hero of TRAPPED so it’s only fair to talk about the heroine. Angelina is rich, famous, and beautiful. Her life is all about her life because after all she is rich, famous, and beautiful. It’s not giving away the plot to tell you that the story starts with her trapped and kidnapped in a basement. She has plenty of time to reflect on her life choices and how they contributed to her being trapped in that basement. She cries out to God for help–as many of us do in difficult circumstances.

Help comes in the form of our hero–Nate Goodman.

Now the question becomes was Angelina sincere as she called out to God. Will she keep her promises to God? Or will she go back to her own selfish lifestyle? Only time will tell!

TRAPPED–The Hero!

So who’s the hero in TRAPPED? Without a doubt, Nate Goodman. You can’t help but love him. He’s a small-town policeman, believer in truth, justice, and Jesus! After some horrific experiences as a Chicago police officer, he comes back home to the sleepy town of Mt. Pleasant, Ohio to work because nothing ever happens there…until it does!

Angelina Matthews has everything—rich, famous and beautiful—until the day she’s kidnapped and trapped in a basement with a madman, wearing only a T-shirt. The dirt was his; the blood is hers. Knowing she’s going to die, she cries out to God. Help comes in the form of Nate Goodman., but that’s not what makes him a hero. Nate becomes the hero when he goes beyond his duty as a police officer to help Angelina who is trapped in the memories of her ordeal and can’t move forward. Want to know more?

You’ll have to read the story!

Book Review: Breaking Anxiety’s Grip

Breaking Anxiety’s Grip by Dr. Michelle Bengtson

She’s done it again! I didn’t think Dr. Michelle Bengtson could top her first book–HOPE PREVAILS–but I was wrong. Hope Prevails is probably my favorite non-fiction book that I’ve read in the last five years. It’s premise is that depression has a spiritual component that can’t be ignored if you want to overcome the depression. When I was diagnosed with bilateral brain tumors and the consequences of them, depression reared its ugly head. This book helped me so much. If you’re facing any sort of a difficult situation, I highly recommend it.
Breaking Anxiety's Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises
Anyway, back to Dr. Bengtson’s new book–BREAKING ANXIETY’S GRIP.  In Breaking Anxiety’s Grip, Dr. Bengtson bravely shares her own struggles with worry, anxiety, and fear. And how she overcomes them through God’s Word.
God never promised that life would be easy, but He does promise to never forsake us. This book both teaches and inspires to trust God, no matter what life throws at us. Even if you don’t personally suffer from anxiety, there’s much to be learned from this book that will prepare you for when life does throw that curve ball at you.
On a personal note, I’ve come to understand just how important God’s Word is in this journey we call life. The Bible is so much more than just a book, it’s the key to accessing God’s power, developing a more intimate relationship with God, and living the life God created us for. After reading these two books from Dr. Bengtson, I believe she agrees with that philosophy as well.
I highly recommend this book.

Coming Soon…TRAPPED

Last Chance

to win your choice of one of my books!

OK, so I had all the great plans for the release of my latest book-The David Years, including giving away books to five lucky people here on my blog.  But life doesn’t always happen the way you plan it. My book released on August 2 as I was in the midst of a family health crisis. My older sister passed away on August 5. She was quite the character and one of these days, you might see her in one of my books. In the meantime, she’s greatly missed.

Because of that I didn’t really promote the giveaway for The David Years the way I planned.

So, here’s the info. Leave a comment on this blog post to be entered to win your choice of one of my e-books, including The David Years. Five winners will be chosen so lots of chances to win. Last day to enter is September 1–my anniversary by the way! Don’t forget to leave a comment. Thanks!

Writer of the Day–Tamera Lynn Kraft

Award winning author Tamera Lynn Kraft has always loved adventures. She loves to write historical fiction set in the United States because there are so many stories in American history. There are strong elements of faith, romance, suspense and adventure in her stories. Some of the novels she has written are Red Sky Over America, Alice’s Notions, and Lost in the Storm. You can check Tamera out on her website at http://tameralynnkraft.net.

Tamera been married for 40 years to the love of her life, Rick, and has two married adult children and three grandchildren. She has been a children’s pastor for over 20 years. She is the leader of a ministry called Revival Fire for Kids where she mentors other children’s leaders, teaches workshops, and is a children’s ministry consultant and children’s evangelist and has written children’s church curriculum. She is a recipient of the 2007 National Children’s Leaders Association Shepherd’s Cup for lifetime achievement in children’s ministry.

She’s here to talk about her new book,  Lost in the Storm (Ladies of Oberlin Book 2)

Will war bring them love or will they be Lost in the Storm!

Lavena, a journalist during the Civil War, wants to become a war correspondent. She finally gets her chance, but there’s a catch. She has to get an interview from a war hero who has refused to tell his story to every other journalist, and she has to accomplish this impossible task in a month or she’ll lose her job.

Captain Cage, the war hero, has a secret that will destroy his military career and reputation. Now, a new journalist is trying to get him to tell what he’s been hiding. He wants to ignore her, but from the moment she came into camp, he can’t get her out of his mind.

Leading up to the turbulent Battles for the city of Chattanooga, will Lavena and Cage find the courage to love and forgive, or will they be swept away by their past mistakes that don’t want to stay buried?

Let’s learn more about Tamera in this author interview:

What would you say has been the most rewarding part of writing?

Every story I tell has a theme that shows God working throughout history. I love researching historical events and seeing how God has weaved Himself throughout our nation’s history. I love when someone reads one of my stories and gets that. My faith permeates through everything I write because it’s a major part of who I am. Even when I don’t write something “Christian”, my faith still shines through the pages.

What made you decide to become a writer?

I have always loved to write. I remember writing my first novel when I was ten years old. It was awful. I think what sparked my love for books was my grandmother. She only had an 8th grade education and was a coal miner’s wife, but she loved to read. I remember sitting on her lap in her rocker and her reading great novels like Black Beauty to me.

In high school, I took all the English and literature classes I could to prepare for my career in writing. I even majored in English in college in preparation of being a writer. At some point in my twenties, my writing career was put on hold for decades. Between raising children and becoming a children’s pastor on staff at my church, there just wasn’t time. I still couldn’t keep from writing. I would write children’s church curriculum and puppet skits for my lessons. Some of it even got published.

Finally about twelve years ago, I resigned as a children’s pastor and started a ministry called Revival Fire for Kids where I travel to other churches to do teacher training, kid’s crusades, and children’s ministry consultations. I also am launching Revival Fire for Kids children’s church curriculum in about a year. This keeps me very busy during the summer, but the rest of the time, I have time to write fiction.

My writing career is back on track and moving along. I feel like God has brought me full circle. I put Him first in raising my children and ministering to other children, and He is fulfilling the desires of my heart by opening up doors for me to write again.

Where do you get your ideas for your books? How did you decide to write Lost in the Storm or the Ladies of Oberlin Series?

I get my ideas from historical events. I love studying history. When I read about an event in history, I wonder what it would have been like for the people living during that time.

The way the Ladies of Oberlin Series began was when I thought about writing about strong Christian women in the 19th century. The more I researched, the more I noticed almost every women I read about had a connection with Oberlin College. That intrigued me enough to research Oberlin. What I found astonished me.

Oberlin College was the first college to give degrees to men, women, and blacks before the Civil War. Almost every missionary who went overseas between 1860 and 1900 was a graduate of Oberlin College. Oberlin’s president was the fiery Second Great Awakening evangelist Charles Finney. Oberlin graduates were involved in abolition, women’s suffrage, prohibition, education, laws protecting children, and many other causes of the late 1800s.

I knew I wanted to write stories about women who graduated from Oberlin shortly before the Civil War. The first novel, Red Sky Over America, is about America Leighton the year before she graduated. She went home to Kentucky to try to convince her father to free his slaves. In the second novel, Lost in the Storm, Lavena Falcon is a woman’s rights activist and a journalist during the Civil War and wants to be a war correspondent. In the third novel, The Aftermath, which will be released in 2021, Betsy Teagan fights for prohibition after the war. Each lady has a love interest to keep things interesting.

What advice/tips do you have for budding authors who are just starting out?

Don’t give up too early. It takes years to get to a point where your writing is good enough to be published. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. If you work hard, continue to improve, and don’t let discouragement stop you, you’ll make it. I’ve always believed that the published authors are not the ones who are the greatest or who have the most potential. They’re the ones who work hard and persevere.

What are your future plans?

I am currently writing the first of a series of novels about women who came to Jamestown in 1619 to marry. The series is called Jamestown Brides, and the first novel is The Seasoning of Elizabella.

Thanks, Tamera, for being my Writer of the Day.

GOD BLESS & GOOD READING!
