REVIEW: The 49th Mystic by Ted Dekker

The story feature a young girl (17) named Rachelle. Rachelle finds herself caught between two worlds–Earth and Other Earth. When she sleeps in one of the worlds, she awakes to find herself in the other world. Are they merely dreams or two different realities?

When Rachelle wakes up in Other Earth, (a place she’s never been before) she discovers she’s more than just a girl–she’s The 49th Mystic. Thus begins her spiritual journey that will cross over between both her worlds–Earth and Other Earth. Her actions in one world has consequences in both worlds. As with any spiritual journey it’s not an easy thing. She has enemies in both worlds who want her to fail. And they are willing to do anything to make sure she fails–even if they have to kill her.

This book is definitely what I call a modern-day parable. What’s a parable? An earthly story with a heavenly message. There are many spiritual truths that are demonstrated in this book. However, if you just want an exciting story that will keep you turning the pages, this book fits the bill for that as well. Dekker had done a wonderful job crafting a story that can be enjoyed by all. Whether you choose to embrace the spiritual message or only enjoy the earthly story, this book is definitely worth your time.

The 49th Mystic is on my short list to read again!

A Writer’s Life–Part 1

I know I’ve been remiss with my blogging. Not just that I don’t blog that often but that I don’t really share much about what it’s like to be a writer. At least my life as a writer. I’m going to change that by adding this new segment to my blog, A Writer’s Life. I’m not saying I’ll blog a whole lot more, but I’m saying I’ll share more about my life as a writer. So without further ado, here’s part 1!

Sometimes writing is easy; other times not so easy; and then there are the times it’s downright difficult. I started working on the third book in my Puzzle House series, probably more than a year ago. And it just wasn’t happening. I couldn’t “see” the story. I’d write some then get stuck, go write something else, then come back and get stuck again. This happened again and again.

Since I started writing this third book, I actually finished three other books and submitted them and got contracts. Yea! I did final revisions on two other books, and started yet another book. Each time I finished a project, I’d go back to the Puzzle House book–currently titled–SUFFER THE LITTLE CHILDREN. Believe me, I was suffering with this book. Anyway, I’d go back to it and start rewriting and then…I’d get stuck once again.

I began to doubt that it would ever get finished, but it was more than half done so I didn’t want to just forget about it. PUZZLE HOUSE tells the story of Rachel and how Puzzle House came to be as Rachel shares about her life and struggles with a young girl named Nia.

THE DAVID YEARS which will release in August of this year and continues the story of Nia.

My idea for SUFFER THE LITTLE CHILDREN would bring the story full circle and back to Puzzle House. But sometimes things don’t go as planned. So I just gave the whole mess to God and asked him to help me figure it out or I was going to forget about it.

Finally about two weeks ago, I realized the story didn’t have a theme. Most of my stories’ themes sort of present themselves to me as I write them. Looking back, this story did as well, I just didn’t recognize it. Once I did, I was finally able to “see” the ending of the story. And so…I’m pleased to say I wrote THE END on the first draft of Suffer The Little Children earlier today!

So when you’re living A WRITER’S LIFE, some days are good and some days are even better!

God Bless & Good Reading!

PS. Prayer works! Praising God for all his blessings, but especially for the blessing of being able to write stories to share with others!

Mistletoe Mix-up by Jody Day

MY REVIEW:

Mistletoe Mix-up is a heartwarming Christmas tale that won’t have you missing the snow and cold of northern Christmases. It’s set in Candle, Texas and as the title implies there’s a lot of confusion and mix-ups happening—enough to keep you reading and wondering what’s going to happen next.

The story features Evan Edwards and Rise’ Larkin. Evan faces another lonely Christmas since his mom’s off on yet another honeymoon. When a college professor tells him of a house-sitting opportunity, he jumps at the chance to at least be in a home (even if it’s isn’t his home) for Christmas rather than a dorm.

And that’s when the mix-up begins.

Jodie Bailey Day has done a great job creating memorable characters, a fun story, and a Christmas message.

Days before Christmas, Sylvia Duvet’s daughter arrives at Carhill’s office in a panic, concerned the gossipers will create their own stories if her mother isn’t found. After all, a wealthy widow only disappears if…

Last Chance by V.B. Tenery:  Chance Crawford is back in Afghanistan. A place he swore to never return. While tracking his objective he encounters two children in need of a protector. And he’s the only one available.  It’s mission impossible but he has never run from trouble.

A CHRISTMAS STOLEN is part of my publisher’s Christmas Extravaganza! Every year, she releases new Christmas-themed novellas in a variety of genres. If you go to Amazon and type in Christmas Extravaganza, you’ll find lots of great Christmas stories to read in your favorite genre. So here’s a little about A CHRISTMAS STOLEN:

Christmas is the best time of the year until evil comes knocking.

Danica Jordan is looking forward to her first Christmas with her newborn niece in spite of being back home. Unlike most people, her hometown doesn’t hold a special place in her heart.

When she arrives home, she finds an open door and an empty crib. She discovers her sister asleep in her bedroom. Panic sets in when the two sisters realize Baby Angelica’s been abducted.

With the baby abducted and Christmas stolen, Danica must put aside her own feelings to search for her precious niece. As the investigation proceeds, Danica comes face to face with the two men who ruined her life.

She comes to understand that Christmas isn’t a thing but a symbol of God’s love and can never be stolen—no matter the circumstances.

A Christmas Extravaganza!

Every year my publisher (Pelican Book Group) gets in the spirit of Christmas by having A CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA. This year is no exception. So what’s A Christmas Extravaganza? She releases a group of new novellas (that’s shorter than normal novels so you can read lots of them) that all have a Christmas theme. Think of it as a Lifetime Christmas movie marathon for readers! There’s books in a variety of genres so there’s something for everyone!

If you go to Amazon then type in Christmas Extravaganza, an assortment of books will come up. It’s a great way to find new authors who love Christmas and Jesus!

Here’s a sample of what you can find if you type in CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA on Amazon:

A CHRISTMAS STOLEN by Lillian Duncan–Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year…until evil comes knocking. AMAZON LINK

NO HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS by Lillian Duncan–She can’t ever go home for the holidays–if she wants to stay alive!  AMAZON LINK

THE CHRISTMAS STALKING by Lillian Duncan–Life isn’t all glitz and glamour for country music star, Destiny; someone wants her dead! AMAZON LINK

CHILD OF LIGHT by Annette O’Hare–Will Margaret’s prayers for a child of her own be answered at Christmastime? AMAZON LINK

A SHARECROPPER CHRISTMAS by Carlene Havel–The Great Depression left the Shoemaker family homeless and hungry.  Things begin to look up when Herbert gets a job sharecropping, but what kind of Christmas can Alice give her family?  AMAZON LINK

During the 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway that starts on December 1, I’ll be featuring a group of authors, some who are part of the Christmas Extravaganza as well.

If you go to Amazon and type in Christmas Extravaganza, you’ll find lots of great Christmas stories to read. Pelican Book Group has so many talented and godly writers, you should check them out!

Today, I’m sharing some of the reviews and/or endorsements for A CHRISTMAS STOLEN.

Luana Ehrlich, author of The Titus Ray Thriller Series:

A Christmas Stolen is a powerful inspirational novella of forgiveness and love all wrapped up in a fast-paced, suspenseful story unfolding just days before Christmas. This heart-rendering tale of a kidnapped baby, combined with the story of a lost love, is a perfect example of how Lillian Duncan is an author who knows how to draw the reader into the story through realistic dialogue and compelling characters, while presenting the Christian message in a subtle yet convincing way. Readers will not be disappointed in A Christmas Stolen. It held my interest from page one and never let go.

V.B. Tenery, author of the awarding winning Matt Foley series

“Reading A Stolen Christmas reminded me of why Lillian Duncan is one of my favorite authors. Unfolding  high tension began on page one with a foreshadowing of things to come that didn’t let up until I turned the last page. The Christmas setting added poignancy to this taut tale of love, fear, loss, desperation, and forgiveness.  A quick and stellar read. Highly recommended!”

Lisa Lickel, author of Meow Mistletoe

A harrowing, heartwarming tale of a Christmas miracle baby, a kidnapping ring, long lost love, and long-awaited forgiveness during one special Ohio Christmas. Duncan shares a lovely contemporary story to remind us who we’ve been and Whose we are. Forgiveness doesn’t have to wait to remind us of all that we can become.

Christmas Suspense Novels? Really?

Christmas and suspense novels don’t seem as if they would go together but…I love writing them and my publisher loves publishing them. When I first saw that my publisher had a Christmas Extravaganza each year where she releases Christmas novellas during December, I wondered if it was even possible to write a Christmas-themed story that was suspenseful as well.

I discovered that it’s not only possible to write a Christmas suspense story, but that I love writing them! So today, I thought I’d feature all my older Christmas stories plus my new ones.

THE CHRISTMAS STALKING:  Life isn’t all glitz and glamour for country music star, Destiny; someone wants her dead!

NO HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS: Chloe wants to go home for the holidays, but someone wants to make sure that never happens!

THE CHRISTMAS ANGEL THIEF: Some mistakes can’t be fixed or so Zoey believes!

A CHRISTMAS STOLEN (To be released on December 1) When her niece is kidnapped, Danica Jordon believes Christmas has been stolen–forever.

A ROCK & ROLL CHRISTMAS (available now!)  Johnny Rocker doesn’t need anyone, especially God because, after all, he’s a rock & roll god. As the floor beneath his feet crumbles, he hurtles toward a different truth!

As you can see, not only is it possible to come up with a variety of Christmas suspense stories, but it makes for some awesome covers as well!

GOD BLESS & GOOD READING!
